Il nuovo Artemidoro

Abstract
L. Canfora and his school have raised objections against the possibility that the Artemidorus papyrus is an ancient papyrus. Even if these objections take their point of departure from actual difficulties of interpretation, they can always be overcome. A comparative examination of the work of Strabo explains several obscure points, in particular the inconsistencies between the indirect tradition and the text of the papyrus.
The last sentence present in the papyrus as well as the detailed description of the area between Gades and the ἱερὸν ἀκρωτήριον seems to agree well with the ideas and the biography of Artemidorus. It would have been difficult for a forger to be aware of such information.
The text and the exegesis of the papyrus need to be modified in several places.
