Was ist 'Wahrheit'?1Der folgende Aufsatz ist eine Fortsetzung meiner 'Vorbe-merkungen' (V) zur Analyse des Inhaltes (C) meiner unter demTitel Airnean (1996) veröffentlichten Tonbandaufnahmen, dieim Jahre 1964 mit Unterstützung der Deutschen Forschungsge-meinschaft in Carna, Co. Galway aufgenommen wurden.Es geht schon aus den ersten Seiten meines Beitrages2 her-vor und wird späterhin noch deutlicher, daß die katholischeKirche Irlands und ihre Priesterschaft, in denen sich offenbarDruidentum und christliche Theologie zu einer bemerkenswer-ten Synthese vereinigt haben, eine ungewöhnliche geistige undmoralische Formkraft der Gesellschaft darstellen. Über dieDruiden selbst sind wir aus älteren Quellen ausreichend infor-miert,3 so daß die Existenz des ersten Standes in Irland4 alsgesichert angesehen werden kann. Ähnliches läßt sich über dieFunktion des Königtums feststellen. Seitdem nun 0 Catha-saigh5 erkannt hat, daß es in der Gestalt des Olc Aiche, desreichen Viehbesitzers und Spenders großzügiger Gastlichkeit,in Irland ebenfalls einen Gott des dritten Standes gegeben hat,der auch im Glauben des Volkes weitergelebt hat6, kann mandavon ausgehen, daß das Vorhandensein einer trifunktionalen1 Ich wurde von der französischen Historikerin Frangoise Legrand dazu angeregt,diesen Aufsatz zu schreiben.
