Abstract
One of the most important sites of the Zarubincy culture in the area of the middle Dnieper is the settlement of Pilipenkova Gora. It is located about 2.5 km southeast of the town of Kaniv on a headland on the right bank of the Dnieper. The plateau on which the site is located covers an area of about 1.5 ha. The traces of the Latène settlement extend over the entire area of the promontory. Pilipenkova Gora was discovered in 1945 during a field survey conducted by T. S. Passek. In 1948, archaeological excavations were carried out here, which enabled the identification of three (?) residential structures attributed to the Zarubincy culture. Later, in the years 1966–1970, the settlement was excavated by E.V. Maksimov and an area of 3000 square metres was uncovered. As a result of these archaeological investigations, more than 30 residential buildings and 100 pits from the later pre-Roman Iron Age and early Roman Imperial Period were discovered.
