WhatsApp Omani Teachers: Social Media and the Question of Social Change

    Najma Al Zidjaly is an Associate Professor of Sociolinguistics (Intercultural Communication) in the Department of English Language and Literature at Sultan Qaboos University, Oman. She is the editor of Building Bridges: Integrating Language. Linguistics, Literature and Translation in English Studies (CSP, 2012). Al Zidjaly is also the author of the forthcoming book, Disability, Discourse and Technology: Inclusion and Agency in Interaction. Her other publications include articles in Language in Society, Multilingua, Visual Communication, Communication & Medicine, Multimodal Communication, Disability Studies Quarterly, and Intercultural Management Quarterly. Her research interests focus on multimodality’s role in illuminating the connections between human agency and social media, as it manifests in the relationship between people with disabilities and new forms of technology, on one hand, and the relationship between creative media and the ever-complex identity of (Omani) Arabs, on the other.
