Abstract
Complement is one of the key systems of innate immunity and homeostasis. Its excessive activation and also a deficiency of complement components or regulators can lead to life-threatening conditions. This review aims to provide the basic knowledge that clinicians need in order to understand complement-related diseases. Moreover, it shows possible indications and interpretations of a complement analysis and explains the rationale behind complement-targeted therapies.
