Vers la construction de mondes possibles en latin: la non-actualisation

Summary

Modem languages may generate possible worlds by means of conditional mood: in what follows we analyse how the Latin language can obviate the lack of this mood. We shall consider the not-actualisation by epistemic modifiers which operate on factuality, as the potential. When the Speaker wants to point out the lowest degree of actualisation, the perfect subjunctive is used to kindly mitigate an assertion or to emphasize “le caractère invraisemblable ou excessif” (H. Vairel 1980: 130). We shall analyse also the "untrue conditionals" which introduce not-conditioned probable worlds and the idea of not-actualisation, rejecting the predication into the "anti-universe of the Speaker^ (R. Martin 1983).
