1. Zur Tauglichkeit des Materials

Bevor man sich mit keltischen Gottheiten überhaupt beschäftigt, muß man sich erst einmal darüber bewußt werden, daß wir von Unmengen unzuverlässigen Materials umgeben sind. So zirkuliert z. B. im Internet eine zwar ausführliche Liste von Theonymen, bei der uns aber auf Schritt und Tritt nicht nur irrige Interpretationen (wie ein rätselhaftes “Beautiful goddess” [!] für die Göttin Alauna, die von P.-Y. Lambert 1990 in morphologisch und semantisch plausibler Weise als ‘Nourishing/nursing goddess’ bzw. als der Form nach mediales Partizip Präsens *al-a-mnā zur Verbalwurzel al- ‘ernähren’ gedeutet wurde, oder auch Ritona mit einem ad hoc-Ansatz als “Goddess of selling”, ohne ihre traditonelle Interpretation als ‘Furtgöttin’ zu gall. Ritu-und -ritum in Ortsnamen: air. -rith ‘Furt’: ako. rid gl. vadum usw. überhaupt zu erwähnen), sondern auch unzuverlässige Formen begegnen (darunter eine Gottheit **Andounna, die aber bisher nur als Gruppe von Muttergottheiten belegt ist, und zwar als Avδoouvvαβo ‘den Anderweltlichen, d. h. deabus inferis’ in der Inschrift RIG-G-183 aus Collias, woraus sich lediglich ein Nominativ Plural *Andunnae extrahieren läßt).
