Damming Egypt / Damning Egypt: The Paronomasia of skr and the Unity of Isa 19,1–10

The verb 
in Isa 19,4 can be understood to mean »dam up/stop up« (like the vast majority of W. Semitic and Akkadian occurrences of the root skr). Thus, 
should be translated »I will dam up Egypt by the hand of a harsh overlord« –a motif known also from contemporary Neo-Assyrian texts. The idea of »damming up Egypt« introduces the »Nile Curse« section of the oracle in vv. 5–10, arguing for the compositional unity of the whole.
Le verbe en Es 19,4 peut être compris comme »endiguer / boucher« (comme dans la majorité des attestations ouest-sémitiques et akkadiennes de la racine skr). C'est ainsi que 
devrait être traduit: »J'endiguerai l'Égypte par la main d'un maître rude« – un motif qui est connu par les textes néo-assyriens contemporains. L'idée d'un »endiguement de l'Égypte« introduit la péricope de la »malédiction du Nil«, aux vv. 5–10, et plaide en faveur d'une unité de composition d'Es 19,1–10.
Das Verb dürfte in Jes 19,4 die Bedeutung besitzen: »abdämmen/verstopfen« (wie bei der weitgehenden Mehrheit der westsemitischen und akkadischen Belege der Wurzel skr). So sollte übersetzt werden: »Ich will Ägypten abdämmen durch die Hand eines harten Oberherrn« – ein Motiv, das auch aus gleichzeitigen neuassyrischen Texten bekannt ist. Die Vorstellung vom »Abdämmen Ägyptens« bildet die Einleitung für den »Nil-Fluch«-Abschnitt in V. 5–10 und spricht für die kompositorische Einheit von Jes 19,1–10.
