Hermeneutics in Real Life: Practical Theology in Flanders (Belgium)

Abstract
This contribution offers an analysis of practical and/or pastoral theology in Belgium, especially in Flanders. The author gives a short historical overview of pastoral theology at the K.U.Leuven. The second part of the contribution contains an explanation of the structure and the main domains within pastoral theology at the K.U.Leuven. In a third step the author speaks about challenges for the future development of pastoral/practical theology, and analyses the cultural Belgian (Flemish) context of the church in relation to society. In a fourth step she shortly refers to practical theology in Protestant faculties in Belgium.
Hermeneutics is described as a key-element in a pastoral and practical theological approach at the K.U.Leuven, which is centered around four main domains of research and education, especially koinonia, liturgia, diakonia and kerugma. Practical and/or pastoral theology in Belgium is confronted with a balance act between relativism and fundamentalism, between society/culture and church and between centrifugal and centripetal movements within the church.
Zusammenfassung
Dieser International Report stellt die Praktische Theologie bzw. Pastoraltheologie in Belgien vor mit besonderem Schwerpunkt auf Flandern. Die Autorin bietet zuerst einen kurzen historischen Überblick über die Entwicklung der Pastoraltheologie an der Katholischen Universität Leuven, der sie selbst angehört. Der zweite Teil beinhaltet die Darstellung der Struktur und wesentlichen Forschungsgebiete innerhalb der Pastoraltheologie an der K. U. Leuven. In einem dritten Schritt widmet sich die Autorin den zukünftigen Herausforderungen, vor die sie die Praktische Theologie/Pastoraltheologie gestellt sieht. Dazu wird der spezifisch belgisch-flämische kulturelle Kontext der Kirche in Bezug auf die Gesellschaft analysiert. Ein vierter Abschnitt richtet den Blick auf die protestantischen Fakultäten in Belgien.
Inhaltlich hebt die Autorin besonders die Bedeutung der Hermeneutik für das praktisch-theologische Arbeiten an der K. U. Leuven hervor, das seinen Schwerpunkt im Rahmen von Forschung und Lehre v.a. auf den Feldern der Gemeindetheorie, der Liturgie, der Seelsorge und Diakonie und der religiösen Bildung hat. Die Herausforderung der Praktischen Theologie/Pastoraltheologie in Belgien besteht insbesondere im Finden eines angemessenen Gleichgewichts zwischen Relativismus und Fundamentalismus, zwischen Gesellschaft/Kultur und Kirche sowie zwischen zentrifugalen und zentripetalen Kräften innerhalb der Kirche, führt die Autorin aus.
