Abstract
Having the potential to break down barriers and create more inclusive environments, digital technologies can revolutionize education making it more accessible and tailored to individual needs although the technological sector has historically lacked diversity. Digital technologies can also inadvertently perpetuate biases and discrimination if not designed and implemented thoughtfully. As digital transformation (DT) evolves, there is a need for effective policies and governance structures to ensure that the benefits are distributed equitably, this will harness the potential of technology for positive social change, ensuring that the benefits of DT are accessible to all and do not exacerbate existing inequalities. Moreover, as societies undergo DT, it is crucial to understand how these changes impact different demographics, especially that digital technologies have become pervasive across various aspects of life, from education and healthcare to business and governance. In this chapter, we identify both positive and negative consequences, as well we explore how these technologies can be harnessed for fostering inclusivity and equity which will reflect the current landscape and the direction in which society is moving. In addition to that, the DT of education has been accelerated, especially with the rise of online learning platforms, and exploring how these digital tools can be utilized is very essential to provide quality education to diverse populations, regardless of geographical or socio-economic constraints, then contributing to the advancement of inclusive learning environments. This chapter may also provide recommendations for researchers to create an enabling environment that supports inclusive and equitable DT initiatives. It might also show insights into how embracing DT positively impacts socio-economic factors, as the focus on inclusivity may lead to recommendations for promoting community engagement and participation in DT initiatives. It also contributes to the development of metrics and indicators that can be used to measure the inclusivity and equity of their DT efforts which will help in identifying areas for improvement. Finally, this chapter might also underscore the importance of educational programs and training initiatives to enhance digital literacy and ensure that individuals, regardless of their background, can fully participate in the digital economy, thereby, studying the embrace of DT in fostering inclusive and equitable environments can lead to a wealth of insights and recommendations that benefit organizations and communities in navigating the digital age with a focus on social inclusion and equity.
