Abstract
Microbial fuel cell (MFC) is the alternative resource of energy. Bio-based materials has significant applicability in development of microbial fuel cell. Biomaterials have applicability in electrode development and membrane synthesis. Bio-based polymers are degradable in nature and upon modifications act as suitable material for proton transport in the fuel cell. In view of the applicability of bio-based polymers in the development of fuel cells, the present chapter discusses uses and prospects of biodegradable polymers for membrane development. Biopolymers, biomass, and microorganismbased MFCs are discussed in corroboration with the literature.
