Abstract

This article examines the latest advancements, trends, and potential uses of bio-based polymers made from renewable resources. The growing awareness of the finite nature of petroleum resources worldwide and environmental concerns have led to a surge in interest in bio-based polymers. Bio-based polymers offer unique combinations of features for new applications and replace existing polymers in several applications. This review presents a variety of bio-based polymers with an emphasis on their general production techniques, characteristics, and commercial uses. The review looks at the technological and future issues, which are discussed in order to bring these materials to a variety of uses. It also looks at possible solutions for these issues and talks about the main companies in the industry that are bringing these materials to market.
