Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) technology is a highly dynamic field that has a huge impact on our working world and thus on our economies and societies in general. This chapter contribution presents in brief the concept and cornerstones of artificial intelligence and how it is being applied across various labor sectors today, as well as the consequences that AI technology may have for workers. In particular, AIbased software automation and robotization are addressed. A brief literature review is presented, on which the further explanations are based. Finally, a conceptual development framework is outlined. The particular challenges of AI-based automation in the working sphere are briefly elaborated and can thus serve as a basis for further research and governance considerations in a variety of affected areas.
