Abstract

Since the first ascent in 1786 by Jacques Balmat (1762-1834), Montblanc has fascinated poets and philosophers. For sixteen-year-old Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1960), the change of weather on Montblanc becomes a symbol of the sudden change of mood of the “genius” from serenity to the melancholy.
