Reception in Performance: Interview and Poetry
-
Bettina Joy de Guzman
Abstract
The penultimate contribution to the volume showcases the work of Bettina Joy de Guzman, a talented multi-instrumentalist, singer and scholar of ancient Greek music, who took part in the panel and capped the conference by playing the lyre and singing excerpts from original ancient Greek hymns and poems, which she set to music. The occasion marked the first performance of her ‘Thetis and Achilles’ song, as well as her ‘Lullaby of Thetis’ poem, both inspired by de Guzman’s personal experience. In the interview, she shares her thoughts on Thetis from a combined scholar-practitioner perspective, after which she provides the annotated text of her ‘Lullaby of Thetis’ poem.
