Abstract
‘Reading cautiously and considerately’: Nietzsche’s ‘aphoristic’ form of thought. The article addresses the theory and praxis of the ‘aphoristic form’ in Nietzsche. In doing so, the article proceeds in three steps: To set the stage for what follows, the first part engages in some overall reflections on how to determine Nietzsche’s form of thought and presentation. Based on these general reflections, the second part turns to Nietzsche’s explicit utterances on the aphoristic form and points out some of its main characteristics, most of all, the aspects of particularity and contextuality implied in this form of thought. Finally, the third part exemplarily sketches readings of two aphorisms, one from the earlier and one from the later work.
