Emotion und Handlung im Artusroman
This chapter is in the book Emotion und Handlung im Artusroman

Abstract

Secret utterances which are spoken out loud and accidentally overheard have been successfully explained within the scope of anthropological history: the history of emotions, history of genders. However, it may be better to understand some medieval examples as phenomena determined by literary history, for example when they can be regarded as imitations of solitary lamentation in antique literature. Consideration must also be given to the performance of antique and medieval literature as audible text. And last but not least, such phenomena are not restricted to old times: they are still in evidence in the nineteenth century.
