Zusammenfassung
Der Beitrag widmet sich einem allegorischen Märchen vom Zarewitsch Chlor, das Katharina II. für ihr Enkelkind schrieb. Diese Kuriosität der Literaturgeschichte gilt nicht nur als das erste Kinderbuch überhaupt, das aus dem Russischen in andere Sprachen übersetzt wurde, sondern auch als das erste Kunstmärchen einer deutschsprachigen Autorin. Neben den märchentypischen Motiven und der Selbstinszenierung von Katharina II. rückt die europaweite Rezeption des Märchens in den Fokus.
Abstract
The article is devoted to a curiosity in the history of literature. The allegorical fairy tale written by the Empress Catherine II. for her grandson was the first children’s book ever translated from Russian and at the same time, the very first fairy tale ever written by a German speaking female author. The article traces its European reception and aims to provide insight into its commercialization on the book market. Special attention is paid to the activities of translators, publishers and literary critics but also to the way the illustrious author staged herself.
