Abstract

This article primarily focuses on the first part of the Shepherd of Hermas, i.e., the so-called Visions. It aims to contextualise and explain Hermas’s decision to revise and reinterpret, in Vis. 3.10.2–13.4, what had previously been stated in Vis. 1.2–3.10.1. At the same time, my article will seek to retrace the main stages of the composition of the Visions. Before delving into the core of the matter, it seems appropriate to provide the essential information about the transmission of the text.
