Abstract

The healthcare sector in India has become the fastest growing sector, which also suffers from the existence of multiple challenges on its way. Technology, especially AI, significantly contributes to the growth of the healthcare sector. There is a growing application of AI in healthcare. The context and current situation of AI in Indian healthcare are discussed in this chapter. The potential uses of AI challenges faced in its application and recommendations to overcome them were also discussed. AI can be defined as the adoption of a variety of technologies empowering machines to sense, understand, and perform healthcare functions. In healthcare, AI has applications in hospitals, diagnostics, medical insurance, medical equipment and supplies, pharmaceuticals, telemedicine, etc. Though AI is practiced in every possible area of healthcare, it still faces difficulties related to data access, design, development, and implementation. In India, safety and security of AI systems is one of the important areas that need to be assured. Availability of reliable data, developing methods for human-machine interactions, addressing the societal, legal, and ethical effects of AI, enhancing workforce skills in the direction of the usage of AI and R&D needs, and evaluation of AI technology are some recommended measures to address the challenges faced by AI in India.
