Chapter 8 Catalyzing Human Potential: The Crucial Role of AI in Modern HR Management

Abstract

Purpose - Human resource management is a function that deals with one of the most important factors of production which is the men or human resources. With the augment of artificial intelligence taking its leap in every field, the area of HRM has also become increasingly driven by artificial intelligence. Thus, this article aims to shed light on the implementation of AI in HRM and the role AI plays in unlocking human potential. Design/methodology/approach - A systematic literature review approach has been adopted for this book chapter to ensure that the process of selecting the articles for the study is unbiased and based on certain set rules. The Scopus database has been referred to for identifying the relevant articles through keyword searches on AI and HRM in the Scopus database. Finally, a total of 33 articles have been taken into consideration for this book chapter. Findings - The literature analysis has revealed that companies are increasingly using AI to manage the different functions of HRM related to employee recruitment and selection, induction and placement, training and development, appraisals and feedback, and employee separation. The study has shown that AI has helped HR managers replace monotonous and redundant work and increased the efficiency of the HR department. Practical Implications - This book chapter will contribute to the literature development in the field of AI and HRM and can be helpful to HR managers to understand the role of AI in making HR practices efficient and economical. Research Limitation - The scope of this book chapter is limited to articles published in the Scopus database from 2012 to 2023. In the future, this book chapter can serve as a base to carry out empirical work in the study area.
