Abstract
Confucianism refers to a complete ideological system of Chinese philosophy and ethic. It was created by Confucius and developed further by his faithful followers. It is considered to be the most influential ideology in the history of China and has greatly contributed to Chinese special education. This paper focuses on four Confucian ideas, namely, commonwealth of Great Unity, providing education for all people without discrimination, teaching students in accordance with their characteristics, and the ethic thought of Ren. The impacts of these thoughts on the theory and practice of special education in China are further presented.
