Abstract

Whether and how smoothly an organization is able to attain its strategic objectives depends on monitoring and evaluative processes that generally fall under the realm of strategic control. Without strategic control mechanisms, organizations can be put in a disastrous position relative to their own goals and their competition. Such a situation would be like running a race blindfolded, with no cues about one’s own position on the racetrack, the twists and turns coming ahead, the need to accelerate in comparison to other runners, the remaining distance in the race, or even whether the finish line was reached. Thus, a lack of strategic control mechanisms is problematic for organizations as limited resources require efficient management, and in a competitive industry landscape, efficiency, speed, and innovation are necessary for success. We move on to discuss contemporary technology, artificial intelligence (AI), as offering unique opportunities as well as challenges for organizations with regard to strategic control. We offer a model for success and end with future directions.
