Abstract

The present paper investigates the morphosyntax of Targets in Northern Domari. Morphologically, it shows that Domari does not have a unified strategy to mark Targets. Syntactically, it appears the preverbal and postverbal positions are accessible to Target constituents. The data collected so far also suggest that there is no evidence that Target constituents exhibit a different syntactic behavior from non-Target constituents. Furthermore, it appears that contact is the most probable cause for the accessibility of both the preverbal and postverbal positions, as the outcome of the resolution of the conflicting orders of Arabic and Turkish.
