The Southern origin of Yahweh, which is challenged by the Berlin thesis of Matthias Köckert and Henrik Pfeiffer (I), is argued for by a new and more comprehensive evaluation of archaeological data (II) and biblical texts (III). The results correlate with each other in matters of the history of religion and theology and thereby substantiate the origin of the solitary weather-god Yahweh in the Late Bronze Age Araba (IV). L'hypothèse selon laquelle Yhwh serait originaire du Sud – hypothèse remise en cause par la thèse berlinoise de Matthias Köckert et de Henrik Pfeiffer (I) – est ici légitimée sur des bases nouvelles et plus approfondies qu'auparavant à travers une réévaluation des découvertes archéologiques (II) et des textes vétéro-testamentaires (III), lesquels peuvent être corrélés sur le plan de l'histoire des religions et de la théologie, rendant ainsi vraisemblable l'idée selon laquelle le dieu de l'orage solitaire Yhwh a bien son origine dans la Araba du Bronze tardif (IV). Die von der Berliner These Matthias Köckerts und Henrik Pfeiffers in Frage gestellte ursprüngliche Herkunft Jhwhs aus dem Süden wird nach einer forschungsgeschichtlichen Situierung (I) neu und umfassender als bisher begründet durch eine aktuelle Auswertung archäologischer Befunde (II) und alttestamentlicher Texte (III), die sich religions- und theologiegeschichtlich miteinander korrelieren lassen und so die Ursprungsheimat des solitären Wettergottes Jhwh in der spätbronzezeitlichen Araba wahrscheinlich machen (IV).

The correct composition-critical division of Genesis 32 provides the key to understanding the geographical oddities of the chapter. As soon as we recognize the Elohist's authorship of Gen 32,2f.25–33* (with Tz. Yoreh, ZAW 117, 2005) and the doublet within vv. 4–22 is separated, the Elohistic text may be plausibly rearranged in the following order: 32,1–2a.14b–22.24*.25–26aα.27.(28–30a.)30b.31.2b–3. This new arrangement solves several problems inherent in the chapter. La division correcte par la critique compositionelle de Genèse 32 explique les éléments géographiques idiosyncratiques du chapitre. Dès que l'Élohiste est identifié comme l'auteur de Gen 32,2–3.25–33* (avec Tz. Yoreh, ZAW 117, 2005), et qu'est séparé le doublet dans les vv. 4–22, il est plausible de réarranger le texte de l'Élohiste selon l'ordre suivant: 32,1–2a.14b–22.24*.25–26aα.27.(28–30a.)30b.31.2b–3. Ce nouvel ordre résoud plusieurs problèmes inhérents au chapitre. Die richtige kompositionskritische Teilung von Genesis 32 liefert den Schlüssel zum Verständnis der geographischen Merkwürdigkeiten in diesem Kapitel. Unter Annahme der Verfasserschaft des Elohisten für Gen 32,2f.25–33* (mit T. Yoreh, ZAW 117, 2005) und unter Anerkennung der Dublette innerhalb der vv. 4–22, scheint die Rekonstruktion eines elohistischen Textes in der folgenden Anordnung plausibel: 32,1–2a.14b–22.24*. 25–26aα.27.(28–30a.)30b.31.2b–3. Diese neue Rekonstruktion löst mehrere dem Kapitel innewohnende Probleme.

After comparing Lev 25,6–7 with Ex 23,11a, we attempt to perceive the theological function of the list of the beneficiaries of the sabbatical year of Leviticus. By adding and removing certain expressions which are in its source text, the author of the book of Leviticus leads the reader to interpret the sabbatical year in the light of creation theology. Après avoir comparé Lev 25,6–7 avec Ex 23,11a, nous tenterons de percevoir les enjeux théologiques de la liste des bénéficiaires de l'année sabbatique du Lévitique. En ajoutant et en supprimant certaines expressions qui se trouvent dans son texte-source, l'auteur du Lévitique amène le lecteur à interpréter l'année sabbatique à la lumière de la théologie de la création. Nach einem Vergleich von Lev 25,6–7 mit Ex 23,11a wird der Frage nach der theologischen Funktion der Liste der Nutznießer des Sabbatjahres im Buch Levitikus nachgegangen. Der Autor des Buches führt durch das Ergänzen und Weglassen bestimmter Ausdrücke aus seiner Vorlage den Leser zu einer Interpretation des Sabbatjahres im Licht der Schöpfungstheologie.

On the basis of a few Hittite sources, which allude to the place of the king's cart and attendants in some legal proceedings, it is suggested that the pericope II Sam 15,1–6, although cast in the form of a casual narrative depicting Absalom's regal pomp and manoeuvres to press his claim to the throne, reflects in fact the outlines of royal legal proceedings. It is shown that the pericope is strewn with various technical terms from the realm of legal proceedings, and these include the royal cart and the fifty runners, which seem to have played a defined role in such legal proceedings presided over by the king in ancient times, as well as the (ratifying) kiss and the bow mentioned in v. 5. Absalom thus seems to be underlining thereby one of the main roles of the king in ancient times – that of the supreme judge. Sur la base de quelques sources hittites, se rapportant à la fonction du char et de la suite du roi dans certains actes juridiques, il est suggéré que II Sam 15,1–6 – bien que décrivant la pompe royale d'Absalom et ses intrigues en vue de la conquête du trône – reflète en fait des aspects de la procédure juridique royale. En effet, on note dans cette péricope de nombreux termes techniques de la procédure juridique, y compris le charriot du roi et les cinquante coureurs. Ceux-ci semblent avoir joué un rôle bien défini dans les procédures judiciaires, auxquelles le roi présidait à haute époque, au même titre que le baiser (assertif) et le prosternement mentionné au v. 5. Absalom semble ainsi souligner une des plus importantes fonctions du roi à haute époque – celle du juge suprême. Gestützt auf hethitische Quellen, die sich auf die Funktion von Wagen und Gefolge des Königs in bestimmten Gerichtsverhandlungen beziehen, wird die These aufgestellt, dass der Abschnitt II Sam 15,1–6, obwohl beiläufig in die Form einer Geschichte gegossen, die Absaloms königlichen Pomp und seine Versuche beschreibt, seinem Anspruch auf den Thron Nachdruck zu verleihen, tatsächlich Konturen königlicher Gerichtsverhandlungen widerspiegelt. Es wird gezeigt, dass die Perikope mit verschiedenen Spezialausdrücken aus dem Bereich königlicher Gerichtsverhandlungen durchsetzt ist. Diese schließen den königlichen Wagen und die 50 Läufer, die in solchen Gerichtsverhandlungen, denen in alter Zeit der König vorsaß, anscheinend eine festgelegte Rolle spielten, ebenso ein wie den (bestätigenden) Kuss und die in V.5 erwähnte Verbeugung. Absalom scheint damit eine der wichtigsten Funktionen des Königs in alten Zeiten zu unterstreichen – die des obersten Richters.

This article studies the specific nature of the arguments used in textual criticism. Most textcritical arguments may be met by contrary arguments. This is so because textual differences usually may be explained in two opposite directions. This is why textual criticism consists of comparing the respective weight of arguments. Therefore the presentation of one argument alone is not sufficient. This method is illustrated by three textual differences, discussed in present day research (I Reg 11f.; 14; I Reg 12,31 with II Reg 17,29.32; II Reg 23,13), and by a fourth one which, astonishingly, is not controversial although it should be (Jer 31,33). It exemplifies another pitfall which may occur in textual criticism: a smoothly running text may nevertheless hide a textual difference which risks being overlooked. Cet article est consacré à la nature de l'argumentation en critique textuelle. À la plupart des arguments, on peut opposer un contre-argument. Car, en règle générale, les différences textuelles peuvent s'expliquer de deux manières opposées. C'est pourquoi la critique textuelle consiste à comparer le poids respectif des arguments. L'exposé d'un seul argument ne suffit pas. Cette méthode est illustrée par trois différences textuelles controversées dans la recherche actuelle (I Reg 11–12; 14; I Reg 12,31 avec II Reg 17,29.32; II Reg 23,13), ainsi que par une quatrième qui, étonnamment, n'est pas controversée alors qu'elle devrait l'être (Jér 31,33). C'est l'exemple d'un autre défaut qui peut affecter la critique textuelle: lorsqu'un texte n'offre pas de difficulté patente, une différence textuelle qui s'y trouve pourtant passe alors inaperçue. Der Artikel ist eine Reflexion über die Eigenart der Argumentation in der Textkritik. Gegen die meisten textkritischen Argumente lässt sich ein Gegenargument geltend machen, weil Textdifferenzen in der Regel auf zwei entgegengesetzte Weisen erklärt werden können. Daher besteht Textkritik im Abwägen von Argumenten. Die Darlegung eines Arguments allein reicht nicht. Diese Methode wird an drei in der gegenwärtigen Forschung umstrittenen Textdifferenzen illustriert (I Reg 11 f.; 14; I Reg 12,31 mit II Reg 17,29.32; II Reg 23,13) sowie an einer vierten, die überraschenderweise nicht umstritten ist, aber es sein sollte (Jer 31,33), ein Beispiel, das einen anderen gelegentlichen Mangel textkritischer Arbeiten zeigt: Textdifferenzen werden übersehen, wenn ein Text keine offensichtliche Schwierigkeit bereitet.

According to the Torah Model of the Hebrew canon, some texts were added at the seams of the canon blocks in order to bind the Prophets and the Ketuvim to the Torah. In this article, several weaknesses are shown in this model. The idea of added texts such as Dtn 34, Mal 3,22–24 (Torah of Moses) and Psalm 1 (Torah) presupposes an orchestrated intervention, but these texts are dated to different times. The Psalter appears at the beginning of the Ketuvim only in manuscripts in which the Megillot are grouped together, and this liturgical order did not originate until the Middle Ages. D'après le modèle de la Torah du canon hébraïque, quelques textes furent ajoutés aux »coutures« des blocs du canon pour rattacher les Prophètes et les k e tûbîm à la Torah. Dans cet article, on tente de démontrer quelques faiblesses de ce modèle. (b) le Psautier, placé au commencement des k e tûbîm , apparaît uniquement dans des manuscrits où les m e gillôt sont réunis. Cette séquence liturgique n'est cependant que d'origine moyen-âgeuse. Gemäß dem Tora-Modell des hebräischen Kanons sind an den Nahtstellen der Kanonblöcke einige Texte hinzugefügt worden, um die Propheten und Ketuvim an die Tora zu binden. In diesem Artikel werden mehrere Schwächen dieses Modells aufgezeigt. Zwei Beispiele: Die Idee hinzugefügter Texte wie Dtn 34, Mal 3,22–24 (Tora Moses) und Ps 1 (Tora) setzt einen aufeinander abgestimmten Eingriff voraus, obwohl diese Texte unterschiedlich datiert werden. Genesis 9,6a, mostly translated as » Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed «, has often been understood as a divine ordinance prescribing the death penalty for (intentional) murderers. Others have proposed to interpret the preposition beth not as a beth causae , but as a beth pretii . This article seeks to demonstrate that the linguistic categories of causation and value that must be distinguished in most Western languages can effectively be combined in biblical Hebrew in the use of the preposition beth . Gen 9,6a, le plus souvent traduit par: » Qui verse le sang de l'homme, par l'homme son sang sera versé «, est habituellement compris comme un précepte divin, celui de la peine de mort pour tout homicide (volontaire). D'autres ont proposé d'interpréter la préposition bèth non comme un bèth causae , mais un bèth pretii . La présente étude vise à démontrer que les catégories de la causalité et de la valeur, qui doivent être distinguées dans la plupart des langues occidentales, sont en fait liées dans l'usage de la préposition bèth en hébreu biblique. Genesis 9,6a, meist übersetzt mit »Wer Menschenblut vergießt, dessen Blut soll durch Menschen vergossen werden«, wurde oft als ein Auftrag Gottes zur Todesstrafe an (vorsätzlichen) Mördern verstanden. Andere haben vorgeschlagen, die Präposition beth nicht als beth causae , sondern als beth pretii zu deuten. Die vorliegende Studie versucht aufzuweisen, dass die sprachlichen Kategorien von Kausalität und Wert, die in den meisten westlichen Sprachen unterschieden werden müssen, im biblischen Hebräisch im Gebrauch der Präposition beth effektiv verbunden werden können.

Although a number of solutions to the well-known crux of Koh 10,10b have been suggested, none has won universal support. One suggestion that has not previously been offered proposes a simple emendation of the problematic term הכשיר to השכיר. The error can be explained as a misguided attempt by a scribe to understand the consonantal text as a form of the root כשר that is nearly exclusive to Ecclesiastes. The conclusion of addition A of the Greek translation of Esther known as the Alpha text relates that Haman was handed over to Mordekhai (as his slave). This unexpected, singular detail appears, with slight variations, in later Jewish sources – in the Babylonian Talmud and Aramaic translations of Esther. It is not unlikely that this represents a well-known, ancient Jewish tradition that surfaced at times in sources from different areas. It is possible too that this collective tradition testifies to the extensive, wide-ranging base of the common heritage shared by Jewish communities in diverse locations in late antiquity. La conclusion de l'addition A de la traduction grecque d'Esther, connu comme »texte Alpha«, relate qu'Aman fut livré à Mardochée (comme son esclave). Ce détail inattendu et singulier réapparaît, avec de légères variantes, dans des sources juives tardives, à savoir le Talmud de Babylone et les Targoums d'Esther. Il n'est pas exclu que ceci reflète une antique tradition juive affleurant à l'occasion dans des textes d'origine très diverse. Il est possible également que cette tradition collective témoigne de l'étendue et de l'ampleur d'un héritage commun, partagé par des communautés juives en divers lieux pendant l'antiquité tardive. Der Schluss der Hinzufügung A der als »Alpha-Text« bekannten griechischen Übersetzung des Estherbuches berichtet, dass Haman dem Mordechai (als sein Sklave) übergeben worden sei. Dieses unerwartete, einzigartige Detail erscheint, mit kleinen Abweichungen, in späteren jüdischen Quellen: Im babylonischen Talmud und in den Esther-Targumen. Es ist nicht auszuschließen, dass dahinter eine bekannte, alte jüdische Tradition steht, die in ganz unterschiedlichen Texten zum Vorschein kommt. Möglicherweise bestätigt diese Tradition auch die breite Grundlage des von regional verschiedenen jüdischen Gemeinschaften der Spätantike geteilten Erbes.

The translator of I Maccabees, or an editor in his circle, perhaps in concert with the author of II Maccabees, implies that throughout the timespan shared by the two books the Maccabean victories were a divine answer to the blasphemies of the enemy. By producing a total of slain enemies that is exactly twice 185,000, he implies that the agreement between the accounts in Isaiah and II Kings stands behind I and II Maccabees. Indem er eine Summe von erschlagenen Feinden erzielt, die genau zweimal 185000 beträgt, erweist er, dass die Aussagen der beiden Makkabäerbücher ebenso übereinstimmen wie die Berichte in Jes und II Reg.
