About this journal

Objective
Translational Exercise Biomedicine (TEB) is an international interdisciplinary journal focused on exercise interventions and the underlying mechanisms for improving human health. The journal aims to bridge gaps between knowledge and practice and provide a specific platform for translational research in this field. The editorial board consists of renowned researchers from various countries, facilitating international dissemination and contribution. The journal is owned by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Guangzhou Sport University. Additionally, TEB is endorsed by the Global Alliance for the Promotion of Physical Activity as the official partner journal.

Aims & scope
Translational Exercise Biomedicine is a peer-reviewed, open access, academic journal, which aims to bridge the gap between mechanistic research and its application to human health and clinical practice with a focus on understanding the therapeutic benefits of exercise and improvement of exercise prescription.

Fields of particular interest to the journal include (but are not limited to):

  • Integrated exercise physiology, biology, and pathophysiology in health and disease
  • Personalized and advanced exercise prescription for health and chronic diseases
  • Physical activity/inactivity and health across the lifespan
  • Sports medicine and movement science
  • Interaction of exercise with diet, nutrition and/or medication
  • Exercise and E-health, M-health, AI and technology
Translation means different things in different contexts. As the concept of "exercise is medicine" has grown in recent years, there is an urgent need for translational research in the field of exercise that bridges the gaps between basic scientific discoveries (e.g., detailing the physiological and molecular responses to exercise) and its application to improving human health and targeting specific disease pathophysiology. Translational research is also needed to bridge the gap between clinical trials describing the health benefits of exercise to changes in clinical practice, health promotion and exercise guidelines.

In Memoriam: Professor Jörn Rittweger

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Professor Jörn Rittweger, esteemed member of our editorial board and co-founder of Translational Exercise Biomedicine, on April 21, 2025.

Professor Rittweger was a distinguished scientist whose work profoundly shaped the field of aerospace physiology. His research explored the development and adaptability of the musculoskeletal system across the human lifespan — from early childhood through old age, and encompassing both clinical populations and elite athletes. Through his pioneering efforts, he developed innovative methods for preventive and rehabilitative applications, significantly advancing the translation of basic scientific discoveries into clinical and athletic practice.

Beyond his remarkable scientific contributions, Professor Rittweger was a valued colleague, known for his generosity, collegial spirit, and unwavering commitment to excellence. His passing represents not only the loss of a leading scientist and dedicated editorial board member but also of a treasured friend whose presence and insights will be sorely missed.

We extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
