About this journal
Subscribe to Open
Starting 2025, Statistics, Politics and Policy will be transferred to Gold Open Access on a year-by-year basis. All articles will thus immediately appear under the Creative Commons license CC BY. There will be no publication costs for the authors.
The Open Access transformation is based on Subscribe to Open, an alternative model that enables the full Open Access transformation of journals through the continuation of existing subscriptions. The prerequisite for successful transformation is that subscriptions are continued to the same extent as before. The editors of Statistics, Politics and Policy and the publisher De Gruyter would therefore like to thank all subscribers for their support, which has made the transformation to Open Access possible.
Objective
Statistics, Politics and Policy publishes research at the intersection of statistical analysis, politics, and public policy. The journal welcomes a wide range of empirical and methodological contributions that apply statistical thinking to the study of political processes, policy design and evaluation, and the broader social, economic, and institutional contexts in which policy is made and implemented.
As the volume and complexity of data relevant to political and policy questions continue to grow, the need for rigorous, transparent, and context-sensitive statistical analysis has become ever more pressing. The journal provides a forum for research that applies and develops statistical methodologies to investigate political and policy-related questions across various fields —including political economy, public health, sociology, public opinion research, and governance studies.
Statistics, Politics and Policy fosters communication between statisticians, political scientists, policy researchers, and decision-makers. It publishes applied research articles, critical methodological reflections, research notes, and commentary pieces that address pressing public issues where statistics play – or should play – a central role. The journal's objective is to demonstrate how innovative and robust statistical analysis can deepen our understanding of politics and policy and contribute to more informed public debate and effective governance.
Statistics, Politics and Policy publishes applied research articles that use statistical methods to analyze political and policy-related issues. Submissions should typically be between 7,000 and 12,000 words in length. Please include a word count in your manuscript. All research articles are double-blind peer reviewed.
Statistics, Politics and Policy invites research notes that present new datasets, offer timely analyses of recent events, or provide brief, data-driven insights into emerging political or policy issues. These concise contributions aim to foster rapid scholarly exchange and support data sharing across disciplines. Research Notes are peer reviewed and should not exceed 4000 words, references included. Papers for the commentary section are short, ideally 600-2000 words, and are intended to be of general interest and readability. That is, they should contain deeper analysis than is found on the Op-Ed page of The Wall Street Journal or The New York Times, but be of comparable interest for the Statistics, Politics and Policy readership.
