Kurzfassung Am Beispiel einer Radsatzwelle wird ein Schadenstoleranzkonzept diskutiert, das am GKSS-Forschungszentrum in Zusammenarbeit mit der DB-Systemtechnik entwickelt wird. Das Konzept greift auf vorhandene Fehlerbewertungsmethoden, v.a. die europäische SINTAP-Prozedur und in Bezug auf die Ermüdungsrissausbreitung die NASGRO/ESACRACK-Prozedur von NASA und ESA, die in Luft- und Raumfahrt weite Verbreitung gefunden hat, zurück. Im Ergebnis der Analyse, die für einen vereinfachten Fall demonstriert wird, ergeben sich quantitative Anforderungen an die zerstörungsfreie Prüfung, welche Fehlergröße für ein gegebenes Inspektionsintervall aufgefunden werden muss.

Microstructure, hardness, tensile, three-point bending and fractography properties were investigated for the following dissimilar steel welds: P91-P22 (W1), P91-P11 (W2), and P91-P1 (W3). These materials were first joined at the root by gas tungsten arc welding; the second, third, and fourth passes were deposited manually by shielded metal arc welding. After welding, these pairs were tempered 760, 735, and 700°C for 1, 2, and 3 hours, respectively (i.e. T1, T2, and T3). The highest hardness values were revealed in the heat-affected zone of P22 for the W1-T2 pair. The lowest hardness was observed in the base metal-P91 for the W2-T2 and W2-T3 pairs. Fracture failure in tensile tests occurred in base metals-P22, P11, and P1. In a few samples, failure took place during three-point bending tests. Cracks which formed as a result of bend testing were within tolerance limits. All weld regions were martensitic, with an acicular structure. The base metal P91 steel revealed a martensitic structure, whereas P22, P11, and P1 base metals had a ferrite-pearlite structure.

The present work introduces an automated corrosion test for coating systems on magnesium alloys, which is based on the titration method introduced by General Motors [1], in which the dissolution rate of magnesium is determined from the amount of HCl added to a sodium chloride solution required to maintain a constant pH value. It is demonstrated that this technique allows a screening of various types of coatings on magnesium alloys yielding much more information than a standard salt spray test or a simple standard immersion test. The main advantage lies in the continuous measurement of the corrosion rate without disturbing the corrosion system and without the need for cleaning the specimens from corrosion products in order to measure weight changes.

Kurzfassung Im Automobilbau wird seit einigen Jahren nachdrücklich das Ziel verfolgt, möglichst leichte Karosserien herzustellen. Aus diesem Grund werden in vielen Fällen die Blechdicken der einzelnen Karosseriebauteile reduziert. Die Tragfähigkeit eines Bauteils hängt aber von der Festigkeit des verwendeten Werkstoffs, von der Blechdicke und von der Bauteilform ab. Deshalb würde durch den Einsatz von dünneren Blechen die Tragfähigkeit der Karosserie herabgesetzt, wenn nicht gleichzeitig Stähle mit erhöhter Festigkeit verwendet würden. Infolgedessen haben sich in den letzten zehn Jahren die Liefermengen der höher-, hoch- und höchstfesten Stähle verfünffacht [1]. In erster Näherung hat sich der Elastizitätsmodul der genannten modernen Stähle mit erhöhter Festigkeit im Vergleich zu klassischen weichen Tiefziehstählen zwar nicht geändert. Im Automobilbau sollten aber die verwendeten Werkstoffe einen möglichst großen Elastizitätsmodul besitzen. In einer im Jahr 2002 durchgeführten Literaturstudie wurden die Einflussgrößen auf den Elastizitätsmodul von Stählen mit dem Ziel zusammengefasst, Möglichkeiten zur gezielten Einstellung eines besonders hohen Elastizitätsmoduls aufzuzeigen. Die Ergebnisse dieser Studie werden nachfolgend dargestellt.

There exists a large scatter of Young's moduli handbook values. The most important reason for this is the diversity of measurement methods used in various laboratories. The average E-value of these measurements is not the best one. A more accurate value may be obtained by verification of handbook data for four elastic coefficients E, G, B and PR, using two known relations for isotropic materials. In some cases discussed by the author, a correlation exists between the E-moduli and the latent fusion heat magnitude sequences for a certain group of metals, which may be used for verification of some E-values. The E-values obtained in a previous MP-paper by the author published in Materials Testing 11–12/2004, using the relative method of calculation based on a correct E-value for pure aluminum, seem to be superior to those obtained directly by the formula E = V 2 d.

Binary alloys have Young's Moduli E which are not much different from those of the basic element, if the content of the second element is limited and the atomic number AN and the atomic mass AM are close for both elements of the alloy. This stresses the importance of accuracy in the determination of Young's Moduli for the approximate evaluation of the Young's Modulus of binary alloys. Of course, in the case of less accurate determined values (more than 5% inaccuracy) it is impossible to measure the effect of the second element content on the value of E, if the alloying content is less than 10%. If the atomic mass of the second element of the alloy is much larger than that of the basic element, its effect on the Young's Modulus might be strong even for small alloying contents.

Kurzfassung Die SprengLR011 schreibt für das Prüfen und Zuordnen sonstiger explosionsgefährlicher Stoffe (z.B. organische Peroxide und Nitrocellulosezubereitungen) zu Lagergruppen die Durchführung von Brandversuchen unter gleichzeitiger Messung der Wärmestrahlung vor. Für die Intensität der Wärmestrahlung gelten Grenzwerte, oberhalb derer Personen geschädigt werden. Aus der Wärmestrahlung wird unter Berücksichtigung des Brennwertes der Strahlungswirkungsgrad bestimmt, der wiederum zur Berechnung der korrigierten Abbrandrate notwendig ist. Aus der korrigierten Abbrandrate folgt die Lagergruppe, die für die Bestimmung der einzuhaltenden Schutz- und Sicherheitsabstände maßgebend ist. Die Messung der Wärmestrahlung erfolgte bisher mit konventionellen Sensoren, deren Bildfeld durch die konstruktive Gestaltung vorgegeben ist und während der Messung nicht mit der wirklichen Flammengröße verglichen werden kann. Dieser prinzipielle Mangel, der auch bei anderen Typen von Sensoren auftritt, ist nur durch ein bildgebendes Messverfahren zu beheben, beispielsweise durch eine Infrarotkamera. Infrarotkameras messen die Strahlung aufgrund ihrer Konstruktion jedoch nur in einem eingeschränkten Wellenlängenbereich. Der fehlende Strahlungsanteil kann aber rechnerisch ermittelt werden, da die hier zu untersuchenden Substanzen immer einen größeren Kohlenstoffanteil enthalten. Das führt dazu, dass das Emissionsvermögen der Flamme im Wesentlichen dem eines grauen Strahlers entspricht. Über eine Kalibrierung mit einem schwarzen Strahler ist eine Einmessung der Kamera in Intensitäten möglich.

The positions of metallic elements in the Periodic Table are associated with a similar magnitude sequence in the case of Young's modulus E, latent fusion heat L and specific heat capacity W (in units of energy concentration cal/cm 3 or J/cm 3 ). The determined magnitudes change simultaneously with increase of the atomic number AN in the periods and subgroups of the Periodic Table. The subgroups can be divided into three types according to the E vs. AN type of relation. In each type, the E-moduli of all metals are arranged in a continuously decreasing sequence of magnitudes and in groups of metals with closest magnitudes of E. In this case, the metals with higher E-magnitudes have higher L-magnitudes. In the case of metals with larger values of E-moduli (E > 400 GPa, Os, Ir, Re, Ru, W), the density and hardness are large and the thermal expansion coefficients small. The ratios L/W are similar for metals from the B-subgroup and with the same structure. The order of metallic elements in the Periodic Table is important not only for chemical properties, but also for physical and mechanical properties such as the bond forces, elastic coefficients E, G, B and PR, heat parameters L, W and L/W, thermal expansion coefficients and E-thermal coefficients, the electrical resistivity, hardness numbers, metal density etc. All the mentioned properties were considered in MP-reports of the author.
