The paper looks into discourse practices in American wedding invitations, identifying possible trends and patterns. Using predominantly genre analysis (Swales 2008) and Critical Discourse Analysis (Fairclaugh 1985), the paper analyses a corpus of American wedding invitations collected between 2002-2013, identifying their discoursal characteristics, frequency of occurrence, and their communicative purpose. It is concluded that further studies are needed to provide researchers with a more insightful view of the impact of religion and traditions on discursive patterns of different speech events.

The goal of this paper is to discuss motion events in Toposa, an Eastern Nilotic language of South Sudan in the light of Talmy’s (1985) dichotomy of verb frame (V) and satellite frame (S) languages. The paper will demonstrate that Toposa is a typical verb-framed language that conflates the path of the motion event into the verb root. In addition, it will show that in line with the lack of prepositions found in the language, Toposa developed a hybrid frame where manner of motion and path of motion are lexicalised. This hybrid frame can be regarded as a new category for the classification of motion events, as it also does not fit into the double framing or equipollent framing category of motion events, suggested by Slobin (2003) and Croft et al. (2010).

The Tunisian Revolution has generated unprecedented attention in Arab and Western news. In many cases, these media intended not only to report on the events but to dominate people’s ideologies in order to favor a political outcome (Galal and Spielhaus 2012). The present study examines the development of the Tunisian Revolution through the lenses of Arab written media –Arabic and English reports – and Western written media in English. The objective of this longitudinal investigation is to elucidate, through a combination of Corpus Linguistics and Critical Discourse Analysis, the ideological representations of the media coverage in the post-revolution era.
