Cloud computing is a new way in which IT is provided and consumed, enabling a gain in flexibility and cost-efficiency. In this paper, we give an industry perspective on cloud computing, discussing both consumer aspects as well as provider aspects that go along with that phenomenon. We present cloud computing as an evolutionary step based on advances in technology and economy, and in essence as the industrialization of IT. We will have a closer look at the concept of cloud services, including aspect like service templates, or service lifecycle, and we present an architecture enabling the efficient management of a cloud. Finally, we elaborate on aspects such as security and trust as well as standardization. Zusammenfassung Cloud Computing ist eine neue Art und Weise, IT flexibler und kosteneffizienter zu nutzen. In diesem Arikel betrachten wir Cloud Computing von Kunden- und Anbieterseite unter industriellen Gesichtspunkten als den nächsten Schritt in der Evolution von IT, bzw. der Industrialisierung von IT. Wir betrachten das Konzept von Cloud Services, Service Templates und deren Lebenszyklus und wir präsentieren eine Architektur zum effizienten Management von Clouds. Darüber hinaus betrachten wir Aspekte wie Sicherheit im Rahmen von Cloud Computing sowie Standardisierung.

Cloud Computing represents a novel and promising approach for implementing scalable ICT systems for individual-, communities-, and business-use relying on the latest achievements of diverse research areas, such as Grid computing, Service oriented computing, business processes, and virtualization. From the technological point of view Grid computing is considered as the most related predecessor technology of Cloud computing. Although, Cloud and Grid computing differ in many aspects, as for example, in the general idea of the provision of computational resource, which is in Clouds commercial based and in Grids community based, there are many similarities. In this paper we investigate the similarities and differences between Clouds and Grids by evaluating two successful projects, namely for the provision of native hight performance copmputing applications as Grid workflows and for the self-management of Cloud infrastructures. Abstract Cloud Computing ist eine neuartige Methode für die Implementierung skalierbarer ICT Systeme, die von den Individuen, Gemeinschaften und Geschäftsprozessen benutzt wird. Cloud Computing basiert auf diversen Technologien wie z. B. Grid Computing, Serviceorientierte Architekturen, Geschäftsprozess-Management und Virtualisierung. Von dem technologischen Standpunkt wird Grid Computing als die wichtigste Vorläufertechnologie angesehen. Obwohl Grid und Cloud Infrastrukturen sich in vielen Aspekten unterscheiden, wie z. B. in der Idee wie die Computerressourcen angeboten werden — in Grid basiert dies auf der gemeinsamen Nutzung der Ressourcen in einer Gemeinschaft, in Clouds ist es kommerziell — haben beide Systeme auch sehr viele Gemeinsamkeiten. In dieser Arbeit untersuchen wir die Ähnlichkeiten und Unterschiede zwischen Grid und Cloud Systemen durch die Evaluierung von zwei erfolgreichen Projekten aus beiden Bereichen, nämlich eine Infrastruktur für die Bereitstellung der Hochleistungsapplikationen als Services für Grid und eine Cloud Infrastruktur für das Selbstmanagement der Cloud Applikationen.

Cloud computing has heralded many advantages including self-service, elasticity, pay as you go, improved accessibility to computation resources, and ease of deployment and deployment automation. However, to extend those advantages to a larger audience, higher-level abstractions such as Software as a Service (SaaS) or Platform as a Service (PaaS) are needed. This paper presents Stratos, which is a Platform-as-a-Service based around the principles and design of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). Furthermore, we introduce the concept of Cloud Native attributes, which we argue are properties essential to extend the benefits of the underlying Cloud to PaaS and SaaS users. We present Stratos as a Cloud Native PaaS offering, discuss the architecture that enables Cloud Native attributes, and discuss scenarios where Stratos can be useful to the end user. Zusammenfassung Cloud Computing verspricht viele Vorteile, insbesondere Nachfrageelastizität, verbesserte Erreichbarkeit von Rechenressourcen und vereinfachte Verwendung bzw. Einsatzautomatisierung. Um diese Vorteile einem breiten Publikum zur Verfügung stellen zu können, bedarf es jedoch hoher Abstraktionen wie etwa Software as a Service (SaaS) oder Platform as a Service (PaaS). Der vorliegende Beitrag stellt Stratos vor, das eine solche, auf Service-orientierten Architekturen basierende PaaS ist. Wir diskutieren die Architektur sowie Szenarien, in denen Stratos für den Endanwender wertvoll ist.

Cloud computing and corresponding “as a service” models have transformed the way in which IT resources can be consumed. By taking advantage of the properties of the cloud — elasticity, pay-per-use and standardization — customers and providers alike can benefit from economies of scale, faster provisioning times and reduced costs. However, to fully exploit the potentials of the cloud, it is necessary, that applications, to be deployed on the cloud, support the inherent cloud properties. In this article we investigate how applications can be designed to comply with cloud infrastructures. We present a framework that allows modeling the variability within such applications regarding their structure, functional, and non-functional properties, as well as their deployment. Using these models the framework guides the user during the customization of an application, provisions it on available clouds, and enables common management functionality for cloud applications, such as elasticity, suspend, and resume. Zusammenfassung Cloud Computing und die dazugehörigen Geschäftsmodelle haben die Art und Weise, in der IT Ressourcen genutzt werden, dramatisch verändert. Aufgrund der Cloud spezifischen Eigenschaften, wie Elastizität, flexiblen Preismodellen und Standardisierung, können Anbieter und Kunden gleichermaßen von Skaleneffekten, kürzeren Bereitstellungszeiten und Kostenreduktion profitieren. Um allerdings diese positiven Eigenschaften von Clouds ausnutzen zu können, ist es notwendig, dass diese auch innerhalb der Anwendung berücksichtigt werden. In diesem Artikel stellen wir ein Framework vor, mit dem die Variabilität solcher Anwendungen bezüglich ihrer Struktur, funktionalen und nicht-funktionalen Eigenschaften, sowie ihres Deployments modelliert werden kann. Auf Basis der hierzu erstellten Modelle begleitet das Framework den Nutzer während der Anpassung der Anwendung an seine Bedürfnisse und provisioniert sie auf verfügbaren Clouds. Weiterhin nutzt es die Modelle, um kundenspezifische Managementfunktionalität, wie Elastizität, Suspend und Resume, zu realisieren.

Cloud computing is about to change the way of delivering IT services to end users. Service providers are required to re-think both their value proposition and value creation processes. We present a framework for studying these cloud value systems. The framework is grounded on New Institutional Economics and provides means for describing, explaining, and designing cloud value systems. Zusammenfassung Cloud Computing verändert die Bereitstellung von IT-Diensten wie Infrastruktur und Software für Endanwender. Dienstanbieter sind gefordert, sowohl ihre Nutzenversprechen als auch ihre Wertschöpfungsprozesse zu überdenken. Der Beitrag stellt hierzu ein Rahmenwerk für die Untersuchung von Cloud-Wertschöpfungssystemen vor. Dieses stützt sich auf die Neue Institutionenökonomik und stellt grundsätzliche Mittel zur Beschreibung, Erklärung und Gestaltung von Cloud-Wertschöpfungssystemen bereit.

Organisations face many threats that coarsely can be separated in inside threats and outside threats. Threats from insiders are especially hard to counter since insiders have special knowledge and privileges. Therefore, malicious insider actions are hard to distinguish from benign actions. After discussing new definitions of insiders and insider threats, this article gives an overview of how to mitigate insider threats and discusses conflicting goals when dealing with insider threats. Zusammenfassung Organisationen sind mit vielfältigen Bedrohungen konfrontiert, die grob in Innenbedrohungen und Außenbedrohungen eingeteilt werden können. Bedrohungen durch Innentäter sind besonders schwer zu verhindern, da Innentäter besondere Kenntnis und Rechte haben. Daher sind bösartige Handlungen von Innentätern schwer von gutartigen Handlungen zu unterscheiden. Im Anschluss an die Definition der Begriffe Innentäter und Innenbedrohung gibt dieser Artikel einen Überblick über Maßnahmen gegen Innenbedrohungen und diskutiert widersprüchliche Ziele bei der Bekämpfung von Innenbedrohungen.

Modern search engines are quite successful in finding relevant documents by using Information Retrieval techniques. However, the centralized architecture of systems such as Google raises concerns in regard of the possibility to censure and to manipulate information. Promising alternatives are peer-to-peer search engines that organize themselves without any central index. We propose a distributed search engine that exploits XML structure of documents in order to improve effectiveness (search quality) and efficiency (resources) of the search. The developed system is based on a set of equal and autonomous peers. It is the first solution of its kind worldwide for distributed XML-Retrieval. Zusammenfassung Moderne Suchmaschinen sind sehr erfolgreich im Auffinden von relevanten Dokumenten. Die zentralisierte Architektur von Systemen wie Google bietet jedoch die Möglichkeit, Informationen zu zensieren und zu manipulieren. Selbstorganisierende Peer-to-Peer Suchsysteme dagegen kommen gänzlich ohne zentralen Index aus. Nachfolgend wird daher eine verteilte Suchmaschine präsentiert, bei der die XML-Struktur von Dokumenten ausgenutzt wird, um die Suche effektiver (Suchqualität) und effizienter (Ressourcenverbrauch) zu gestalten. Das entwickelte System basiert auf einem Zusammenschluss gleichberechtigter und autonomer Peers und ist die weltweit erste Lösung für verteiltes XML-Retrieval.
