In this study , the methods of Water Jet Peening (WJP) and Laser Shock Peening (LSP) were compared to Shot Peening (SP) and investigated in terms of induced residual stresses (RS), microstructure, surface topography and fatigue properties for a case-hardened steel. Different modifications of the surface topography were observed for the different peening methods: after SP, a strong plastic deformation of the surface occurred while the LSP had only a minimal influence on surface topography. After WJP with very high pressure (4500 bar), microscopic damages can occur at the surface. SP leads to the highest compressive RS (up to −1650 MPa) with a maximal affected depth of about 170 μm. After WJP, maximum RS of about −1000 MPa with very low depth (50 μm) are present, while the LSP leads to very large affected depths (< 1 mm) and RS of about −1300 MPa. In terms of fatigue properties, the SP process shows the highest improvement compared to the heat treated state (+47 %) while the LSP and the WJP leads to an improvement of +15 % and +23 % respectively but with larger scatter.

The mechanical and microstructural properties of aluminum A356 cast alloy are investigated as a function of hot isostatic pressing and heat treatment parameters. The combined hot isostatic pressing and heat treatment process leads to an improvement of mechanical properties when compared to regular hot isostatic pressing with no separate heat treatment. An oversaturated state with magnesium and silicon atoms dissolved in the aluminum matrix can be achieved by increasing the quenching rate to 6.9 K/s within the temperature range between 813 K and 473 K. Aging can be performed directly after hot isostatic pressing, without the necessity of a separate solution annealing step. Thereby, the overall processing costs could be reduced.

Kurzfassung In einem Ringvergleich wurde der Elastizitätsmodul an Probenwerkstoffen aus Stahl, Messing und Aluminium mit verschiedenen Versuchsmethoden bestimmt (Zugversuch, Biegeversuch, Laserakustik, Krafteindringversuch, Schwingungsimpulsanregung, Resonanzmethode). Durch die Besetzung mit ungleicher Teilnehmerzahl wurde die statistische Auswertung über alle Werte und über die repräsentativen Gruppenwerte (alle Gruppen mit gleicher Wichtung) durchgeführt. Im Ergebnis zeigten sich signifikante Abweichungen, sowohl gruppenübergreifend wie auch innerhalb der Verfahrensgruppe.

Kurzfassung Die Alterung wassergemischter Kühlschmierstoffe infolge der Besiedlung und Zersetzung durch Mikroorganismen ist von hoher Bedeutung für die metallverarbeitende Industrie. Ein breites Spektrum an Bakterien- und Pilzarten ist in der Lage, so gut wie alle verfügbaren chemischen Substanzen im Kühlschmierstoff als Energie- oder Kohlenstoffquelle in ihren Stoffwechsel einzubinden. In den vorgestellten Untersuchungen werden Effekte der Kühlschmierstoffalterung anhand relevanter Parameter diskutiert, wobei ein konventioneller Kühlschmierstoff auf Mineralölbasis und ein mineralölfreies Produkt auf Basis nachwachsender Rohstoffe gegenübergestellt wurden. Unterschiedliche Strategien von Mikroorganismen bei der Verstoffwechselung der verfügbaren chemischen Substanzen werden anhand der Entwicklung der dynamischen Oberflächenspannung und des pH-Wertes diskutiert. Unter anderem zeigte sich, dass die Besiedlung mineralölbasierter Kühlschmierstoffe durch Mikroorganismen eine längere Anlaufphase benötigt als bei Grundölen auf pflanzlicher Basis. Mittelfristig sind jedoch beide Kühlschmierstoffe gleichermaßen stark besiedelt, was sich u. a. negativ auf die Korrosionsschutzeigenschaften der Fluide auswirkt. Eine Verschlechterung der Leistungsfähigkeit in Tribologietests aufgrund der bakteriellen Kontamination konnte gleichwohl nicht belegt werden.
