OPC Unified Architecture (OPC UA) is widely considered a key enabler of “Industry 4.0” and one of the most promising standardized platforms for industrial communications from sensor to cloud. One of its key features is a powerful framework for information modeling that allows to compose semantic models and enables self-describing information provisioning. As the way semantic information is represented in OPC UA is akin to Semantic Web technologies and knowledge graphs, a relatively new field of research deals with exploiting synergies between the two technology domains and with combining OPC UA with different artificial intelligence (AI) paradigms. This paper provides a literature review of this area, structures the existing contributions, and provides an outlook on future research directions. We argue that large untapped potential lies in applying AI techniques, in particular machine reasoning, to OPC UA data to orchestrate dynamic, self-organizing, and flexible production processes in a highly automated fashion.

Modern industrial production requires real-time control and monitoring of critical quality variables that are hard to measure, which leads to the development of soft sensors that infer the quality variables online. In the big-data era, massive data are collected from industrial processes, which might contain irrelevant information. In addition, large models, especially large deep neural networks, might contain redundant substructures that could also create irrelevant information. The negative effect of irrelevant information on soft sensors is rigorously investigated in this paper, which motivates the development of a new soft-sensing method based on information-bottleneck (IB) theory. This new method combines decoupled representation learning, irrelevant information elimination, and soft-sensor modelling into one model that can be optimised as a whole using a single cost function. The new soft-sensor model is in the form of a trade-off between model complexity and training accuracy, which results in structural risk minimisation and mitigates overfitting. Compressing the model complexity by removing irrelevant information increases the model performance of quality-variable inference on the testing data set. Using a case study on the sulphur-recovery unit, soft sensors were built with and without the proposed IB module. It is shown that adding the IB module improves R 2 from 55.6 % to 80.9 % and decreases the MSE from 0.039 to 0.026.

A new design of observer-based compensators for robust asymptotic rejection of persistent disturbances is presented. A systematic method to prevent controller windup caused by input saturation is the observer technique, i.e., driving the observer by the constrained plant input. When using the internal model principle this technique does not stabilize the compensator during saturation. Therefore, several additional measures have been developed to overcome this problem. The approach presented here follows a completely different path. It starts with a compensator of sufficient order, which is first designed for pole placement. By subsequently modifying the feedback of the observer states and, if necessary, of the system outputs, the conditions for a robust disturbance rejection are satisfied. Thus, the observer technique directly assures windup prevention.

The right information in the right place at the right time – in a modern industrial environment this central principle is becoming increasingly important, especially for the fundamental value of human-centricity. A maintenance technician who has to respond to alarm signals and take location-based interventions within a plant is faced with the challenge of accessing necessary information in a targeted manner in this information-rich environment. Context-aware Location-based Services offer potential supportive solutions for this, but their application with regard to industrial maintenance and servicing operations is deficient. This paper presents the concept of a spatial information model (SIM-CIP) with selected presentations of conceptual modeling approaches for such context-aware Location-based Services, using the example of a complex heat pump plant.

Zusammenfassung Die Digitalisierung in der industriellen Fertigung bietet erhebliche Potenziale zur Prozessoptimierung und Effizienzsteigerung. Ein zentraler Standard zur Unterstützung dieser Entwicklung ist die Asset Administration Shell (AAS), die einen interoperablen Informationsaustausch ermöglicht. Dieser Beitrag untersucht die Integration von Zeitreihendaten und automatisierten Serviceanfragen der dafür relevanten AAS-Teilmodelle, mit dem Ziel, die Effizienz und Zuverlässigkeit industrieller Prozesse zu verbessern. Die für die Asset-Integration, sowie Integration von Zeitreihen erforderliche Architektur wird mit ihren Bestandteilen erläutert. Eine Fallstudie demonstriert deren Anwendung unter Einsatz von Softwarekomponenten wie Eclipse BaSyx, InfluxDB und externen Tools zur Anomaliedetektion. Dies erfolgt unter Nutzung etablierter Schnittstellen aktueller Steuerungssysteme.

Zusammenfassung Die Eigenschaftsregelung mit einer online-Messung der Bauteileigenschaften ist ein in der Umformtechnik viel diskutiertes, aber kaum validiertes Konzept, um den Automatisierungsgrad bei der Bauteilfertigung weiter zu erhöhen. Dieser Artikel soll helfen, die Lücke beispielhaft für den Fertigungsprozess des Drückwalzens metastabiler Austenite zu schließen. Der metastabile austenitische Edelstahl ändert hierbei während der Verformung seinen α′-Martensitgehalt und damit verbunden die magnetischen Eigenschaften. Deshalb soll über die Regelung das definierte Einstellen des α′-Martensitgehaltes möglich werden. Im Rahmen des vorliegenden Artikels wird gezeigt, wie mittels des modellbasierten Entwurfs die Eigenschaftsregelung ausgelegt und parametriert werden kann. Zudem beinhaltet der Artikel experimentelle Validierungsergebnisse der zuvor entworfenen Eigenschaftsregelung.

Zusammenfassung Zur Ermittlung des Gesamtmomentes eines dualen Motors mit den Informationen eines Wicklungssatzes, wird in dieser Arbeit eine Methode vorgeschlagen, um die beiden Einzelmomente gleichmäßig zu verteilen. Die Arbeit geht auf den Einfluss der übergeordneten Regelung zur ungleichmäßigen Verteilung ein. Zum Einsatz kommt eine duale permanenterregte Synchronmaschine mit 0° Phasenversatz und zwei derzeitig standardisierten dreiphasigen Wechselrichtern. In der Simulation und in realen Messungen werden zwei Einflussquellen für eine ungleichmäßige Momentenverteilung auf die beiden Wicklungssätze identifiziert. Mit der Anpassung des Geschwindigkeitsreglers der übergeordneten Reglung auf einen reinen P-Regler wird eine Lösung vorgeschlagen, um die gleichmäßige Verteilung der Einzelmotormomente beider Wicklungssätze ohne Kommunikation der beiden Steuergeräte untereinander zu gewährleisten.
