P.Lund I 4, first published in 1935, contains lines from an unknown comedy, doubtfully attributed to Menander in the ed.pr. ; P. Carlsb. inv. 50, published in 1977, preserves verses from a comedy possibly by Menander or Apollodorus of Carystus. According to my re-examination, the two fragments belong to the same bookroll. In this paper I will discuss this joint, together with a new reconstruction of the comedy scene preserved by P.Lund I 4 and some new readings.

This article presents an unpublished Ptolemaic papyrus from the collection of the University of Trier which contains an official letter concerning a tax-collection. The papyrus is of special interest, firstly because of its unusual receipt form which requires further investigation, and secondly and primarily, however, because of its exceptional lexicography.

The late Ptolemaic document from the Freiburg papyrus collection published here for the first time is an order to distribute bread loaves. Fully preserved, it is of particular interest for its lexicographical novelties, such as the hitherto unattested adjective χοινικιεῖος. The article further discusses the origin, nature, and use of ὁλοπυρῖται ἄρτοι, “loaves of unground wheat,” and corrects editions of papyri mentioning ἄρτοι χοινικαῖοι (CPR I 31, P.Duke inv. 85 and P.Oxy. XXIV 2424 descr.).

The texts published here for the first time are documents copied at the branch of the agoranomos’s office in Philadelphia in the first half of the second century BCE. P.Freib. 78, on the one hand, records a conciliation before the chrematistai, which comprised the official recording of the mutual concessions made by the parties as well as a memorandum to the judges. The attestation of an Atargateion, a private sanctuary dedicated to the “Syrian goddess”, provides a link to another papyrus of the Freiburg collection (P.Freib. 42) and suggests Philadelphia as the likely provenance of the piece. P.Freib. 79a‒c, on the other hand, were written in the same hand as P.Freib. III 32-33 and a recently edited papyrus from the collection in Giessen, which provides a secure paleographical link with the agoranomic material from Philadelphia.

By re-examining the letters of prefects and other officials, this article proposes to consider ἐρρῶσθαι ... βούλομαι as the standard epistolary farewell formula in Greek used by prefects from the early 2nd century CE to the mid-3rd century CE, while in the same period ἐρρῶσθαι ... εὔχομαι was avoided by prefects and commonly used by subordinate officials.

The ‘mistakes’ in the arithmetical problem of SB XXIV 16038 A turn out to be most likely explained not as calculation mistakes but as errors occurred in a copying process, both considered in themselves and in the light of the transmission tendencies that can be detected in the papyrological tradition of this kind of mathematical texts. These errors appear to be strictly analogous or maybe in some way connected with the similar inconsistencies that affect the text of the closest parallel, namely, two loan problems of P.Mich. III 145 fr. 3 col. vii.1-4 (probl. 1) and 5-7 (probl. 2).

In this paper, I revise readings in published papyri from the archive of Dioscorus from Aphrodite. The corrections proposed include all types of changes, as well as new readings of unedited text.

This article provides the join and re-edition of two previously edited Coptic ostraca which can now be identified as another letter to the famous 7th-century Egyptian bishop Pesynthios of Koptos, found like the rest of his correspondence at the Monastery of Epiphanius in Western Thebes. It is outstanding in its use of hagiographical language even within an archive notorious for such tendencies. In particular, the article explores the enigmatic title and theological concept “Pillar of Light.”
