In P.Oxy. LXXI 4807, l. 6 the dogskin (a cap) is invisible, because it is covered by the helmet; l. 8f. the weavers weave a vest for a coat of mail.

The idea of ‘two loves at one time’ (3498 + 3250b r. col. ii.2) is a topos at the start of a poem in classical and Hellenistic poetry. 3250c r. col. i.3 is a prose heading. 3250c r. col. i. 5 confirms that Alcaeus fr. 42.1 V. is the beginning of a poem. The quotation of Anacreon PMG 395.1 in 3250c r. col. i.7 confirms that Stobaeus quoted the beginning of the poem and falsely dates it to the second century AD. 3250c r. col. ii.1 is probably a new verse by Anacreon.

The present article focuses on ten of the incipits documented by P.Mich. 3498 and 3250 b, c and a recto and investigates their dialect and metrical structure. It also provides an in-depth linguistic and semantic analysis of relevant words and argues in favour of the artful arrangement of the six incipits contained in 3250 a r col. ii.6-11.

This article presents a new supplement for column II of P.Oxy. II 302. This fragment, along with P.Oxy. XI 1365 and P.Oxy. XIII 1610, was attributed, at different times, to Ephorus or to the author of the Hellenica Oxyrhynchia. Stylistic observations suggest that P.Oxy. II 302, P.Oxy. XI 1365 and the Hell. Oxy. might be by the same author, while P.Oxy. XIII 1610 might be part of another work.

This paper discusses scholarly supplements of lines 31-32 of the so-called Theramenes papyrus (P.Mich 5982), and presents a new supplement on the basis of literary and stylistic considerations. Moreover, stylistic features suggest that the author of the Theramenes papyrus might be the same as for the Hellenica Oxyrhynchia.

This paper examines the Herculanean texts where Xenophanes, or a more or less explicit reference to his thought, appears. Some important testimonia in the corpus of Philodemus’ works stand out: three fragments of P.Herc. 327, a roll that has been assigned to the Survey of Philosophers; fr. 12 of P.Herc. 1428, a passage of On Piety; fr. 23 of P.Herc. 207, belonging to book 4 of the work On Poems; fr. 16 of P.Herc. 1015, containing one of the books of the multivolume treatise On Rhetoric.

In this paper I offer a new papyrological edition of the magical hymn 11 Preisendanz, contained in PGM II at lines 81-101, supported by a translation in Italian and a literary commentary. This magical hymn mirrors late antique language and imagery so that we can speak of a magic oracular koiné.

Published accounts of the University of Michigan’s acquisitions of items from the papyrus find known as the ‘Chester Beatty Biblical Papyri’ are sketchy. This article describes the results of research at the University of Michigan and the Chester Beatty Library, which has provided details about the chronology of the purchases and the dealers involved, as well as a new suggestion regarding the provenance of the find.

The four papyrus documents from the bundle of the Artemidorus papyrus form a small family archive. The Alexandrian parents, Dionysios and Didyme, apply for their son, Dionysios, to be included in the Ephebe list (no. 4). They attach to their application the Ephebe certificate of the father (no. 1), the report of their son’s birth (no. 2) and the official confirmation of his acceptance into the tribe Eirenophylakeios (no. 3).

The topic of this article is P.Zauzich 59 (= P.Mich. V 342), a first century AD Demotic tax-receipt issued by the priests of Soknebtunis for a payment of a fee on the transfer of property, i.e. the impost widely known as διδραχμία τοῦ Σούχου. In addition to some new interpretations of the text, the tax mentioned is contextualised and discussed. Several related texts are examined and some improved readings are offered for these as well.

P.Fay. 224 is a private letter, found at Euhemeria in the Fayûm, from Ninnaros to his son Zosimos, informing him that he has sent him money and oil so that he should lack nothing, and urging him to take care of his own affairs.

Edition of P.Cair. Cat. 10441, recognised as the top left part of SB VI 9124 (P.IFAO inv. 317), containing a monthly register of tax receipts issued to Ankophis son of Pabous by Abous and fellows, praktores argyrikōn of Soknopaiou Nesos in the early 3rd century AD. The document is closely paralleled by SB XIV 11971, dealing with the same people and the same tax, hyper aporikou/-ōn. A full revision of the previously published IFAO fragment is provided as well.

This article presents an edition of the unpublished papyrus P.Iand. inv 409 belonging to the Gießen collections. The document is dated to the Roman period (AD 164/5) and contains the beginning of a petition or a letter to the strategos Heliodoros from Heron, son of Phaseis, komogrammateus of Talei and Ibion Eikosipentaruron. The text is a part of the group of papyri related to Heron and Heliodoros.

BGU II 594 is a letter from Apollonios to Chairemon and belongs to the archive of Apollonios from Bakchias. In this article, by interpreting the meaning of some phrases and words and by putting forward for consideration some textual improvements, the details of the situation are clarified, although some questions remain open.

Publication of six papyrus fragments in the Beinecke Library dating from late antiquity: an administrative letter probably relating to the transport of the grain tax to Alexandria (1); a work contract from Oxyrhynchus (2); a loan of three artabas of wheat (3); an Arsinoite loan or sale on delivery of 17 kouri of wine mentioning an ‘estate of Epiphanius’( 4); scribal practice with peculiar invocation and dating formula from the reign of Phocas (5); a receipt between monks of the Apa Apollo and Apa Anuphius monasteries in Bawit (6).

Edition of a 5th century papyrus from the Würzburg collection containing a petition (perhaps within proceedings) with the decision of a praeses. The matter of the request concerns the cursus publicus.

Edition of a Byzantine memorandum in the form of a short letter. The text gives instructions for a private individual who is traveling to Constantinople, including the delivery of correspondence. There is evidence that the papyrus was repaired both in antiquity and by a modern antiquities dealer.

An edition of two Heidelberg papyri from Late Antique Oxyrhynchus. P.Heid. inv. G 5157 is a receipt for meat supplied to a bucellarius from the Apion archive. P.Heid. inv. G 1651 is a fragment of an acknowledgement of a loan that exhibits Coptic influence in its formulation.

A hitherto overlooked papyrus in the British Library reveals how Egyptian villagers managed the payment of their annual poll-tax quota in early Islamic Egypt. This text forms part of the archive of a moneylender in 8th h century Thebes, Daniel son of Pachom, which shows him to be a wealthy member of the community who loaned money to others in need. Daniel’s finances, activities, and family life are examined for the first time in light of this material.

Edition of a Roman receipt from Syene/Elephantine for the poll tax (λαογραφία) and the contribution for those who have fled (μερισμὸς ἐπικεφαλίου ἀνδρῶν ἀνακεχωρηκότων).
