The issue of structures within university libraries has been revived in recent years. This concerns matters such as cloud-based library software, centrally organized licenses, patron-driven acquisition, or research data management – these developments could affect library structures within universities enormously. The “Handbuch Hochschulbibliothekssysteme” (2014) provides a description and analysis of information infrastructures for research and study from as many different perspectives as possible. In doing so it aims to offer a survey of those structures as well as to deliver key elements for sustainable library structures within universities. The article focusses on exemplary models for reorganizing library structures in German-speaking countries.

Up to now, the general image of a “library” has remained alarmingly unchanged. But the advancing digitization of media and the mobilization of media use require new meaning and content. Among experts the idea of service- and experience-oriented learning spaces evolves as a common concept, replacing the classical media storehouses. But how promising is this new concept? And how is this claim met and sustainably ensured? Based on changes in the information and media sector, the article describes the general framework for innovation management in libraries and the related conclusions. Subsequently, some concrete development opportunities for physical libraries are presented.

More than a million books from 24 branch libraries were transported to the new “Campusbibliothek der FU Berlin” and arranged according to the Regensburg classification system. This involved the Technical Department, transport and forwarding specialists, library staff and student assistants – a total of more than 100 people.

This report describes the semi-automatic evaluation of the archivabilty of complex websites. The use of standard tools and specially developed programs is described.
