Abstract

This paper describes the contribution of Charles Crussard to sheet metal forming science. After recalling the state of this technique in the 1940s, when Crussard started his studies, we explain how the International Deep Drawing Research Group was launched, how he became the second president of this organisation and how much he influenced it.

Some examples of his contributions to research are given, and finally a brief review of later progress in this domain will point out the development of some of his ideas.
