M. Terentius Varro De lingua Latina 5. 43: Quod ea quatum dicitur velabrum

Abstract
Book 5, chapter 43 of the Varro’s De lingua Latina, where the author discusses various etymologies of Aventinus and Velabrum, contains a long-known lacuna. In this article I would like to present some deficiencies of the emendations having been proposed so far, and then make an own proposal of a supplement, basing on Tib. 2. 5. 33–4, Prop. 4. 9. 5–6, Var. L. 5. 156 and Plut. Romul. 5. 4–5.
