In diesem Jahr erhält Gerhard A. Ritter den deutschen Historikerpreis, der als „Preis des Historischen Kollegs” vergeben wird. Die Würdigung gilt, um aus dem Statut zu zitieren, dem „wissenschaftliche[n] Gesamtschaffen eines Historikers”: „Grundlage für die Auszeichnung”, heißt es weiter, soll „ein herausragendes Werk bilden…, das wissenschaftliches Neuland erschließt, über die Fachgrenzen hinaus wirkt und in seiner sprachlichen Gestaltung vorbildhaft wirkt”. Alle diese Kriterien sind, was den Preisträger, sein Opus magnum und sein historiographisches Werk angeht, in geradezu beispielhafter Art und Weise erfüllt.
This year, Gerhard A. Ritter has been awarded the German Historical Award which is assigned as the „Award of the Historische Kolleg” (Munich). According to the statutes, this award considers “the historian's academic achievement as a whole”. The award is meant to pay tribute to “an outstanding work … which covers new academic grounds, is recognised beyond the academic field and whose style is exemplary”. In the case of Gerhard A. Ritter, all of these criteria are met in an ideal way.
