Abstract

The first part of this article sets the stage for a new approach to the reconstruction of Anatolian history during the late Old Assyrian or level Ib period, which is to follow in the second part (AoF 2008/2). The reign of King Labarša of Kaneš during the period of level II is confirmed. That of Asu of Luhusattia, along with elements of the archives excavated in 1962 (kt n/k), from which Asu is known, is re-dated. A reinterpretation of certain key texts, such as kt n/k 32, leads the author towards a partly revised view of the sequence of the kings of Kaneš. A new compilation of the so called iqqāti-documents is also offered and discussed.A list of personal and geographical names from texts that are dated either by year eponym or by Anatolian king is provided as an appendix, allowing the partial correlation of Assyrian līmū with Anatolian kings.
