Rhapsody in the Blue: Another Greek Loanword in Biblical Hebrew

Abstract
There is currently no satisfactory etymology for the hapax legomenon רַפְסֹדוֹת rapsōdôt in 2Chr 2:15 (Eng. 16), although its meaning is agreed to be »rafts, floats«. It is proposed here that the word comes from the phonetically identical Greek word ῥαψῳδία (the ancestor of English rhapsody), which literally means »linked song«. Logs linked together into rafts recalled verses linked together into songs.

Für das hapax legomenon רַפְסֹדוֹת rapsōdôt in 2Chr 2:15 (dt. 16) gibt es derzeit keine zufriedenstellende Etymologie, obwohl seine Bedeutung übereinstimmend »Flöße« lautet. Es wird hier vorgeschlagen, dass das Wort von dem phonetisch identischen griechischen Wort ῥαψῳδία (dem Vorläufer der deutschen Rhapsodie) stammt, das wörtlich »verbundener Gesang« bedeutet. Zu Flößen verknüpfte Stämme erinnert an zu Liedern verknüpfte Verse.

À l’heure actuelle, il n’existe pas d’étymologie satisfaisante pour l’hapax legomenon רַפְסֹדוֹת rapsōdôt en 2Ch 2,15, bien que l’on s’accorde à lui donner le sens de »radeaux«. Dans cet article, il est proposé que le mot vienne du mot grec phonétiquement identique ῥαψῳδία (origine du mot rhapsodie), qui signifie littéralement »chant lié«. Les troncs d’arbre reliés entre eux pour former des radeaux rappellent les vers reliés entre eux pour former des chansons.
