Infrared Imaging of Corroded and Darkened Oriental Manuscripts with Standard Digital Camera

Abstract
In this paper, the infrared imaging of a 16th century Turkish manuscript using a standard digital camera equipped with a basic infrared filter is described. By using this material the original text, totally unreadable due to the darkening of the iron induced corroded paper can be made visible again.
Zusammenfassung
Wir berichten über die Infrarotaufnahme eines türkischen Manuskripts aus dem 16. Jahrhundert mithilfe einer digitalen Kamera, die mit einem einfachen IR Filter ausgestattet wurde. Diese Methode ermöglichte die Sichtbarmachung des originalen Texts, der vollständig unleserlich war aufgrund der Verfärbung des Papiers, die durch eisen-induzierte Korrosionserscheinungen eingetreten war.
Résumé
Nous avons référé sur un document photo infrarouge fait sur un manuscrit turc datant du 16e siècle, document généré par un appareil photo numérique courant équipé d'un simple filtre infrarouge. Grâce à cette méthode le texte original est apparu, ce texte était devenu parfaitement illisible à cause de la détérioration de la couleur du papier ayant foncé suite à la corrosion produite par le fer.
