Abstract
In order to remove NOx produced by corona discharge in indoor air cleaning, this work experimentally studies NO2 production behavior under different polarity, discharge power and relative humidity (RH). The study was carried out in a closed chamber of 0.2 m3. The results show that NO2 production in negative corona discharge is far less than that in positive corona discharge, and humidity show a suppressing effect on NO2 production. Using a manganese oxides catalyst can significantly reduce NO2 concentration. Indoor application tests are carried out in a closed room of 90 m3, and results show that NO2 is reduced from 0.2~0.3 ppm to a level that cannot be detected after 1.5 h corona discharge. Infrared spectrum and BET analysis reveal that NO2 is removed by adsorption and catalytic oxidation on the surface of catalyst, where it turns to nitrate.
