Removal of SO2 by Gas-Phase Oxidation Using DBD Micro-gap Discharge Plasma

Abstract
In this paper, four kinds of discharge at high pressure (≥105Pa) were discussed. The removal of SO2 from simulated flue gases was experimentally investigated using a DBD (dielectric barrier discharge) micro-gap discharge. Hydroxyl (OH·) radicals of high concentration was produced using the ionization of O2 and H2O to further the conversion of SO2 into H2SO4 in the absence of any catalyst or absorbent. With the test and analysis, a number of H2SO4 droplets were captured using a semi-dry electrostatic precipitator (ESP). Therefore, a new gas-phase oxidation method for the removal of SO2 without NH3 additive is found.
