Themenheft „Sprachkontakte“: Call for papers

Die Herausgeber der Zeitschrift „Glottotheory. International Journal of Theoretical Linguistics“ laden Sie herzlich ein, Beiträge zum Themenheft „Sprachkontakte“ einzureichen.

Wenngleich Sprachen und Varietäten – als eine natürliche Begleiterscheinung von Kulturkontakt – seit jeher in mehr oder weniger enger Kontaktstellung zueinander stehen und sich wechselseitig beeinflussen, dürfte heute gelten: Als Konsequenz wirtschaftlicher Globalisierung, intensiver Migrationsbewegungen und anderer dynamischer Faktoren sind kulturelle und somit auch sprachliche Begegnungssituationen nunmehr zu einem Dauerzustand geworden. Vor diesem Hintergrund rücken aktuelle mehrsprachigkeitsbezogene und dezidiert kontaktlinguistische Fragestellungen zunehmend ins Blickfeld. Wenngleich das Blackwell-„Handbuch of Language Contact“ schon einen „wealth of literature on language contact“ attestiert, gilt, dass das soziolinguistische Paradigma ‚Sprachkontakt‘ für die linguistische Forschung viel Zukunftspotenzial bietet.

Für das Themenheft „Sprachkontakte“ werden Manuskripte erwartet, die sich sprachlichen Kontakt-und Interaktionsphänomenen in einem breiten Sinne sowohl in individueller als auch in gesellschaftlicher Hinsicht widmen. Zur individuellen Dimension gehört u.a., wie Sprachsysteme innerhalb einer bi- bzw. multilingualen Person interagieren und welche Faktoren auf die Sprach(dis)balance vor allem in den Bereichen Grammatik, Lexikon und Diskurs abfärben. Hinsichtlich der gesellschaftlichen Dimension sind u.a. Einstellungen zu Sprachen und die Sprachbewusstheit im Hinblick auf den Sprachkontakt von Interesse. Da an Kontaktgeschehen nicht nur Einzelsprachen, sondern auch innersprachliche Varietäten beteiligt sind, sollen – neben historischen sowie gegenwärtigen Sprachkontakten – auch Varietätenkontakte im Fokus stehen. Untersuchungen zur Dynamik von sprachlichen Systemen und Wandelprozessen sind ebenso willkommen wie zu spracherwerbstheoretischen, sozio-, psycho- und neurolinguistischen Forschungszusammenhängen. Deutsch-, englisch- oder französischsprachige Beiträge, die im gegebenen Gegenstandsbereich Aspekte von qualitativer und quantitativer Linguistik miteinander verbinden, werden besonders begrüßt.

Thematic edition "Language Contact": call for papers

The editors of the journal “Glottotheory. International Journal of Theoretical Linguistics” cordially invite you to submit contributions to the thematic edition “Language Contact”.

Although languages and varieties – as a natural side effect of cultural contact – have always been in more or less close contact with each other and mutually influence each other, it must nowadays be considered that through economic globalisation, intensive migration movements and other dynamic factors, cultural and thus also linguistic encounter situations have now become a permanent condition. In this context, current discussions related to multilingualism and especially to language contact are increasingly coming into focus. Although the Blackwell “Handbook of Language Contact” already attests to a “wealth of literature on language contact”, the sociolinguistic paradigm of ‘language contact’ offers great potential for future linguistic research.

For the thematic edition “Language Contact”, contributions are expected to address the phenomena of language contact and interaction in a broad sense, both in individual and social terms. The individual dimension includes, among other things, how language systems interact within the language use of a bi- or multilingual person and what factors influence linguistic (dis)balance, especially in the areas of grammar, vocabulary, and discourse.

Regarding the social dimension, attitudes towards languages and linguistic awareness concerning language contact are of interest. Since not only individual languages but also intra-linguistic varieties are involved in contact events, the focus should be on varietal contacts in addition to historical and contemporary language contacts.

Studies on the dynamics of linguistic systems and processes of change are just as welcome as those on language acquisition theory as well as socio-, psycho- and neurolinguistic research contexts. German-, English- or French-language contributions that combine aspects of qualitative and quantitative linguistics in the given subject area are particularly welcome.
