Security Guards as Participants in and Mediators of a Ghost Tradition
Abstract
This article discusses narratives about a haunted building at the Faculty of Arts that began circulating around 2009. It particularly focuses on the role a group of security guards played in sustaining the ghost tradition as well as on the role that the narration and exploration of ghost lore played for its members.
Résumé
Le présent article discute les narrations au sujet d’un édifice hanté de la Faculté des Arts qui circulent depuis environ 2009. La discussion se focalise surtout sur le rôle qu’un groupe de vigiles jouait en maintenant la tradition sur les manifestations surnaturelles dans le bâtiment aussi bien que sur le rôle que la narration et l’exploration des histoires de fantômes jouaient pour ses membres.
Zusammenfassung
Der Aufsatz befaßt sich mit den seit etwa 2009 umlaufenden Narrativen zu übersinnlichen Manifestationen in einem Gebäude der Fakultät der Künste. Im Mittelpunkt steht vor allem eine Gruppe von Sicherheitsbediensteten und ihre Rolle bei der Verbreitung und Pflege der Spukgeschichten ebenso wie die Rolle, die das Erzählen der Geistergeschichten und die forschende Auseinandersetzung damit für ihre Mitglieder spielten.
