This note serves as an announcement of the “retirement” of Prof. Ronald M. Latanision from the Editor-in-Chief position at Corrosion Reviews. He has been serving in this position since 2005 (since 2010 under the ownership by De Gruyter). I have known Ron for over 30 years, mainly because we are both brother Buckeyes PhD graduates from The Ohio State University. Ron and I are gradchildren of Mars Fontana, who is considered the founder of the concept of Corrosion Engineering. Ron’s passion as Editor goes beyond his outstanding tenure at Corrosion Reviews (for example, he is the Editor of The Bridge, the publication of the US National Academy of Engineering).
Ron will remain part of the Corrosion Reviews family as a member of our Editorial Board. I personally thank Ron for all of his unwavering rectitude and passion as an editor and for his impressive wisdom and poise dealing with the less glamorous sides of editing and publishing.
Ron will be succeeded as Editor-in-Chief of this journal by Professor En-Hou Han, the President of the Institute of Corrosion Science and Technology (ICoST) in China. Professor Han has also a connection to Prof. Latanision since he worked as a Research Scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from 1995 to 1998. The details of the brilliant career and publication legacy of Prof. Han are truly impressive and too long to be listed here. Besides the many honors and recognitions received by Prof. Han in China, he received the 2016 Whitney Award from NACE International (now AMPP), which is the highest recognition in corrosion science in the USA (Prof. Latanision received this same award in 1994). Prof. Han has also the commendable spirit of international collaboration through his working with scientists from all nations, and he served as president of the United Nations World Corrosion Organization (WCO) based in New York City.
I look forward to start working with Prof. Han as Editors-in-Chief as we continue to bring awareness to corrosion in publications for the education and benefit of society, the preservation of assets, and the protection of the environment.
