  Thierry Vasselon holds a PhD degree in Microbiology from the University of Paris VI, Paris, France. His work has focussed on the mechanisms of pathogen recognition by the innate immune response and on early responses to pathogens. His interest in microRNAs modulated by bacteria and viruses started in 2008, when he started working in collaboration and then directly with C.-H. Lecellier at the Institut de Génétique Moléculaire de Montpellier, Montpellier, France.

  Manuella Bouttier holds a PhD degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Montpellier, Montpellier, France. During her thesis, she worked under the supervision of C.-H. Lecellier and notably showed that the retroviral GAG proteins recruit AGO2 on viral RNAs without affecting RNA accumulation and translation. Since 2011, she has been working on the effects of vitamin D on Mycobacterium tuberculosis at the McGill University. She is particularly interested in innate immune responses and transcriptomic modulations in host macrophages.

  Anne Saumet holds a PhD degree in Cell Biology from the University of Paris VII, Paris, France. Her interest in microRNAs and viruses started in 2005, when she joined the Institute of Plant Molecular Biology in Strasbourg, France. There she also worked on the contribution of microRNAs in cancers. Since 2008, she has been in charge of a project aimed at characterizing genetic and epigenetic events associated with the early steps of breast cancer in the Cancer Research Institute of Montpellier, Montpellier, France.

  Charles-Henri Lecellier holds a PhD degree in Virology from the University of Paris VII, Paris, France. Results obtained during his thesis led him to the Institute of Plant Molecular Biology to study antiviral RNAi in mammals, and there he implicated the microRNA pathway in retroviral replication. Since 2007, he has been working at the Institut de Génétique Moléculaire de Montpellier, Montpellier, France, with particular interest on the complex interplay between the microRNA machinery and viral replication.
