Zusammenfassung

Die Städtischen Bibliotheken Dresden konnten ihre beiden zentralen Einrichtungen und die Verwaltung jetzt in einem unter Denkmalschutz stehenden Bestandsgebäude von 1969 vereinen, in dem mit dem Umbau der alte Mehrzwecksaal durch einen Konzertsaal für die Dresdner Philharmonie ersetzt wurde. Ausgehend von einem bibliothekarischen Konzept entstand in einem fast zehnjährigen Planungsprozess eine Einrichtung, in der Anforderungen an eine moderne Öffentliche Bibliothek und Anforderungen, die das Gebäude stellte, zu tragfähigen Kompromisslösungen geführt werden mussten.

Abstract

The Städtische Bibliotheken Dresden (Dresden Municipal Libraries) recently managed to unify their two central institutions as well as the administration in a listed historic building constructed in 1969. During the reconstruction, the old multi-purpose hall was replaced by a concert hall. Thus it was possible to create an institution with a library concept in the course of a continued planning process that took almost ten years. The reconstructed building meets the demands of modern public libraries as well as the demands of the listed building itself and finally provides working compromise solutions.
