Endovascular Brachytherapy. A Concise English-German Glossary of Terms, Abbreviations, and Acronyms

Brachytherapy has been established worldwide as outstanding radiotherapeutic modality in the treatment of certain coronary and peripheral artery conditions and has initially been focused on in English language publications. Any new form of interdisciplinary medical treatment poses terminological problems and uncertainties. The following bilingual glossary aims at cardiologists, radiotherapists, medical physicists, and also at translators and interpreters. It attempts to clarify the most frequent nomenclature questions and pitfalls in the wake of endovascular brachytherapy. Terms, abbreviations and acronyms of daily use in one discipline may not belong to the terminological routine in the other and have therefore been included by intention. It goes without saying that any compilation of this kind is bound to fall short of completeness.

Die Kontaktbestrahlung koronarer und peripherer Arterien stellt ein mittlerweile weltweit etabliertes strahlentherapeutisches Verfahren dar, über welches zunächst vor allem in der englischsprachigen Fachliteratur berichtet wurde. Da jede neue interdisziplinäre Behandlungsmodalität erfahrungsgemäß terminologische Fragen und Probleme mit sich bringt, haben es sich die Autoren zur Aufgabe gemacht, die häufigsten und wichtigsten diesbezüglichen Termini, Abkürzungen und Akronyme in einem zweisprachigen Glossar aufzulisten. Angesprochen sind Kardiologen, Strahlentherapeuten, Medizinphysiker, aber auch Übersetzer und Dolmetscher sowie andere Sprachmittler. Bewusst wurden auch solche Begriffe aufgenommen, die für die eine Fachdisziplin unter Umständen selbstverständlich sind, aber nicht zum terminologischen Repertoire der jeweils anderen Arbeitsgruppe gehören. Ein Anspruch auf Vollständigkeit wird nicht erhoben.
