Sie dokumentiert den Werdegang Buchheims vom Schüler zum Münchner Hochschullehrer und die Entwicklung seines Geschichtsbildes. Karl Buchheim plädierte mit Nachdruck für die Revision des herrschenden kleindeutschen Geschichtsbildes und erwies sich damit als entschiedener Kritiker Bismarcks und Luthers.
